Wearable arts.

Description: For production we are doing Wearable arts. The main theme of the production is Ora-Life. We have to make a costume of recycled material. We had a day where we went to all the teachers in poutama for a 'taster'. The options were, Heros and Villians, Elements and Out of Africa. I am in Out of Africa, we have to create a garment that relates to Africa. First we had to reaserch Africa and make a mood board. A mood board is a poster of all these things related. To your topic that you liked. Next we had to plan our garment out, here is my plan and my mood board.

I have got both my wings done now and they are looking fabulous so far. I am going to finish my tail and make my mask next and then my costume will be complete.

1) The materials that I used to create my garment were: Paper, hairtyes, elastic, staples, bath towel, cardboard, cable tyes.

2) The most challenging thing about production for me was: cutting out the feathers because it was extremly tedious and they broke easily.

3) One way I demonstrated a growth mindset during production was: when I couldn't find anything to use in my hair but I kept on looking and found some cable tyes.

4) Something I am really proud of about production was: my wings because now that I am finished they look amazing.

5) Our school vision is to create agency, creativity and excellence. I showed this by: creating my t-shirt out of a bath sheet and my feathers out of paper.

Reading Portfolio Sample.

Description: In reading we were given a choice for our goal. We could chose either Summarising or 

Questioning. I thought I was quite good at both but could work on Questioning a bit more. We had to chose a tic tac toe about Questioning. I chose the Reverse it up task, which was the disadvantages of a computer.

Think hard and out of the box.

Big Idea:

I have learnt to think harder andto question my ideas. For example, if I had A computer can't drive a car.  You can probobaly make a computer drive by controlling through it. So you would change the sentence to A computer can't drive a car with hands. That way it makes more sense. This task has helped me think more critically about what I am writing and if it is true.

Feedback/Feedforward: You have done a great job in terms of amount! Next time you could add more detail and make you questions deep so that the reader really has to think about your answer. Great job!

Evaluation: I think I have done well at coming up with the ideas and thinking critaclly about my ideas. Next time I could make my questions a bit more deep and add detail to my poster.

Knoword

Knoword is an educational and challenging game where the computer gives the definition and the first letter of a word and you have to write it down. You have one minute to do as many as you can and every time you get one right you get 20 points. But every time you skip one, by pressing the x button, you lose ten points. Two stars and a wish.

My goal in poutama and out of poutama is to be a courageous learner. Being a courageous learner is when you take risks, think outside the box, put yourself in the learning pit and work independently expect when it is a collabiritive task. We have set one goal and chosen two things that we are really good at. Two stars and a wish is when you decide on two things you are really good at and one thing that you need to work on.

Red Fox and Marly

In class we had to do a collabiritive writing task with a friend. I did mine with Bella. It is about the S.C.S, a place for special orphans with an odd bond. The two main characters were based on us. The idea came out of game we used to play. Here is the first chapter. I hope it hooks you in and makes you want to read more.

Kapahaka

Description: Every Monday after lunch Kapahaka takes place. Kapahaka is a group of students who learn Maori songs and actions and preformed to different audiences in different places such as the regent and other schools. It is to. Teach students about Maori people and the cultures of the natives of Aotearoa.

Big idea: Here is my reflection on what I need to work on and what I am good at for Kapahaka.

At kapahaka I enjoy the singing as a group because it shows how close we are and brings us together as one.

I am most proud of my actions because they are clear and fluent.

I find pronunciation challenging because Maori words are hard to pronounciate and sometimes you sing them wrong without realising it.

I am managing this challenge by asking my peers if I am pronouncing the words correctly.

A personal goal for me is to pronounce and practice the words on my own time.

Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapahaka by helping the younger members and my friends and taking in others feedforward and working on it.

Feedback/Feedforward: Ana I think you do good at the pronouncing the words right in most of the songs. Maybe if you want to get better at pronouncing the words that you don't know you could ask for help or practice. 😋 Taylor

Evaluation: I think I am getting better at my pronunciation because I can hear it in my singing but I could work on the words now because I am finding that I am missing some out.

Bad

As a tic tac toe activity we had to come up with lots of better words that could replace the word bad. Such as horrindeos and horrible. I did mine on pic collage. Next time I think I could put more words in and make two word jars.

Maths Portfolio Sample

Description: In maths we are learning about strategies. We are learning to use the best strategy for each problem and how to use that strategy. There are three stages. Stage 6, stage 5 and stage 4. I am in stage 6. The strategys we a learning to use are:

Equal addition

Place value partioning 

Reversibility.

We were given a peice of paper with 4 questions on it. We had to answer the questions by picking and object and using the prices. We also had to use one of t he strategys above. I used Trial and error most often. 

Big idea: You can see from my pictures that I used different strategys for different questions. I learnt that equal addition was the best and trial and error took the most time.

Evaluation: I think I did well at getting what I had to do done in the short time I had because I had ICAS practice so I was a day behind. Next time I could label what stratigies I have used because it is hard to tell what I am using.

Animal adaptations inquiry!

Description: For science we got to chose who we wanted to be with. We went to each teacher. Troy, Suzanne and Ebony. Troy is doing food webs, Suzanne is doing the human body and Ebony is doing animal adaptations. I'm in Ebony's group for inquiry. We are learning about biological adaptations and behavioural adaptations. A biological adaptation is something an animal has developed that is part of their body like wings or fur. A behavioural adaption is something they learnt to do like a sea bird dropping mussels on the rocks to open them.

Big idea:We had to chose animal and think of a burning question about them around a biological or behavioural adaptation. I chose the Peregrine falcon. I my burning question was how fast can they go. I made a haiku deck about what I predicted it would be and the answer.

Evaluation: I think I did well at gathering my information but next time I could do an experiment because my presentation is a bit boring and doesn't have any audience participation.

Writing Portfolio sample!

Description: In writing my goal is sentences. I aim to have a range of different sentences including complex sentences. To get better at this I am going to practise writing different kinds of sentences and putting them together to make a story. We wrote a story based around a video we watched called 'Mouse for Sale!' Here it is.

Big Idea: A complex sentence is a sentence is a sentence that has and independent part and a dependent part. For example, Olivia is a girl is a simple sentence. But if I added on it to make it, Olivia is a girl with long flowing hair it would be a complex sentence because with long flowing hair doesn't stand on it's own. We had to include lots of complex sentences in our writing and highlight them red. Here is my writing! Hope you enjoy!

Phenomenal Word Jar!

Description: In reading my goal is to Expand my vocabulary. Every Monday morning I book myself into two workshops that are on expand vocabulary. I have to book into one yellow workshop and one orange workshop and have to make sure it is not clashing with anything else. 

These are strategys that I am aiming to use for my reading.

Success Criteria:

Reread the text to understand unknown words.

Read on to figure out what a word means.

Try to look for the base or root word inside it. Such as Reread. Read is the root word.

Synonyms.

Big idea: In class we have a Tic-Tac-Toe board. A Tic-Tac-Toe board is a board with a whole bunch of activities based on a goal, two are green and the rest are plain white. The green ones are priorities and the white ones are ones were you can chose what to do. You have to do both greens and one white. This week we only had to do a white activy. I chose phenomenal word jar. A phenomenal word jar is when you chose a bunch of juicy words that you think you should use more often in your writing.

Feedback/Feedback: I think you did a fantastic job on explaining the Tic Tac Toe board. I think you could work on you could work on the colours in your phenomenal jar because it is a bit hard to see some words. Taylor

Oxymorons

In writing we have been learning to use complex sentences. We looked at a picture about digging deeper. We had to make our own picture like it. Showing from simple sentence to complex. Here is mine.

Description: Every week we learn about skills and movement that will help us play sports. This is called CMIYC. CMIYC stands for Catch Me If You Can. This term’s focus has been around defense. We made a video showing some of the goals we have been practicing. We also have a success criteria about what we should be doing. Discovery time

Today we did discovery time. Discovery time is when you have a choice of activity and you can chose one to do. I chose to do song lyrics with Bella, Taylor, Rosalind and Olivia F. We showed angency because we changed the song until everyone was pleased with it. In the end we started to record it but it didn't record properly so we will finish it next time.

Turtle writing

WALT: Use complex sentences.

In class we are learning to use complex sentences. A complex sentences is two sentences, anindependent sentence and a dependent sentence joined together. An independent sentenceis a sentence that can stand on its own, a dependent sentence is a sentence that can't stand on it's own and needs another sentence to make sense. We watched a video about sea turtles and facts about them. We had to do writing with the facts we learnt and change the facts into complex sentences. Here is mine.

Description: in class we have been making our two stars and a wish for the term. Two stars means two things that were highlights of your term and a wish is what you want to get better at. Here is mine.

Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae!

Description:  In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville. We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities. We arrived with our buddies and participated in all the activities set for us by our teachers together. After a hearty afternoon tea our buddies departed to school, leaving us to spend the night alone. Well it wasn't that bad. We set two goals to focus on during our stay. Here are my goals.

Big Idea:  

1.  Did you achieve your goals?  How do you know?

 For my first goal to do all my goals to the best of my ability did not work out because I in the end I did not do it. My second goal I achieved. I know this beacause I got every where I needed to be on time and did not need to go back to do something I forgot to do.

2.  What are you most proud of from the marae stay and why?

I am proud of not talking at night because I was really tired and wanted to get a lot of sleep. I am also proud of completing the Gorge because my bag was really heavy and hard to carry.

3.  What challenged you the most and why?

The Gorge walk because my pack was really heavy and most of it was up hill so it was difficult to climb all the way up with only a few stops.

Triangles with Troy!

Description: 

We have been learning about Geometry for Maths for the past few weeks. We looked at all the different types of shapes and in particular triangles. We have learnt that there are 4 different types of triangles and we created something to share our understanding about each of them. I created a poster with my friend Emma. Here it is.

Big Idea: I have found learning about triangles with Troy fun and have learnt a lot. I think that triangles are much exciting to learn about than I expected. I am hoping that someone can learn about the different triangles.

Evaluation: I think I did well on listing the angles and explaining about the protractor. Next time I would use a more readable font for the poster because this font is really hard to read.

Feedback/Feedforward:

I love your poster Ana, if I didn't know about any of the Triangles I would understand your poster. 

Next time I think that you could make your poster a a bit easier to read ( I find that some of the words are a bit hard to read because of the font and some of the paragraphs don't match the picture). Your poster is AMAZING! -Hannah.

Storytelling

Purpose: Create a story to share orally.

Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7. We had to make a story board to help us figure out what was going to happen in our story. My story is about how the sky was made. It is set in a town where the only colours are dark green and gray. We also had to do a character description. Here are mine.

Big idea: In the end I had to change my story because it didn't turn out quite right. Annie turned out nice and was the one that changed the colour. Watch my video to see the other differences.

Evaluation: Next time I would make my story with more crowd participation. I am proud of my story itself and what I changed it to.
